The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League has immediately produced some of the biggest fixtures European football can offer, after the league-phase draw was completed in Monaco. Among the headline pairings: Paris Saint-Germain against Barcelona, and Real Madrid against Arsenal. Manchester City have also been handed a demanding schedule, including meetings with both PSG and Barcelona.
The draw is especially significant under the competition's current format, where each club faces eight different opponents rather than the old four-team group stage — producing far more high-profile matches before the knockout phase even begins.
Arsenal's schedule stands out in particular: the London club will face both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, two heavyweight tests before the knockout rounds. Aston Villa will meet Barcelona and PSG, Manchester United face Bayern Munich, and Liverpool's league-phase opponents include Atletico Madrid and Inter.
The stakes attached to every fixture have risen too. The top eight teams advance directly to the last 16, while teams finishing ninth through 24th are funneled into knockout play-offs — meaning clubs can no longer treat a difficult away fixture as expendable.
